Brut - Dry
Cava - Spanish fizzy wine made in the Champagne method
Champagne - Fizzy wine made in a particular method first discovered by accident by the monk Dom Perignon - Champagne can only be called Champagne if it is made in the Champagne region
Chateaux - Wines from just one particular chateau rather than a blend in a village/area
Corked
Fortifed wine - A wine which has had a spirit to it before fermentation is complete. The spirit is usaully brandy. Usually containing a 20% alcohol volume and sweet. Fortified wines incl port, madeira, marsala & vermouth
Jeroboam - Bottle containing 3lts (4 bottles)
Magnum - Bottle containing 1.5 ltrs (2 bottles)
Rehoboam - 6 bottles
Methuselah - 8 bottles

Spumante - Fizzy
Tannins - A natural chemical found in the skins, stems & seeds of grapes. Gives you that mouth puckering & dry feeling when the wine is high in them but also acts as a preservative when found in wine that is drunk when older & mellows the wine when aged.
Vintage : The vintage is simply the year that the fruit, usually one or more varieties of grapes, used in making the wine was grown.
A non-vintage means that the chanmpagne is a blend of different years and a vintage means the grape used is from one year only, usually reserved for those years that have been deemed to be exceptionally good

Vin de pays : The next quality up from table wine
